Letter - Thanking for a Wedding Gift

How to Write a Letter

NOTE: You can send an email to thank for a wedding gift as well but that is not customary and may come across as rather "cheap."

The letter of thanks for a wedding gift must be sent as soon as possible after receiving the gift.

It's customary for the bride herself write it on a quality stationery and in her own handwriting.

Here are some Thank You Card options:

  • White Calla Lillies Thank You Note Cards

  • Acadian Tapestry Thank You Notes (Stationery, Note Cards) (Note Card Series)

  • Black and Cream Thank You Cards

When the wedding is hurried or when gifts arrive at the last moment, the bride is not required to acknowledge them until after the honeymoon. In all cases the gift is acknowledged both for herself and her husband-elect or husband.

    Here are some letter samples:

    My dear Mrs. Smith,

I don't know how to thank you for the lovely Deluxe Towel Set. They are so soft and just the perfect color. It was simply lovely of you to send us such a beautiful gift. Richard wishes to expresswith me our deepest appreciation.

With all good wishes, I am

    Sincerely yours,
    Pat Brown

    Dear Mr. and Dr. Smith,

This is the first opportunity I have had to thank you for your wonderful gift. But, as you know, our arrangements were changed at the last moment and we did not have time to open many of our wedding gifts before going away. So we hope you will forgive us for the delay.

We are now back in town settled in our new home and I want you to know how appropriate are those exquisite picture frames. James and I are both deeply grateful for your thoughtful and splendid gift.

    Yours most sincerely,
    Pat Brown
