How to Write a Cruise Boat Brochure Copy

How to Write Commercial Copy

© 2010 Ugur Akinci

If you live near a river, waterway, bay or the open sea you probably have a few companies offering boar tours for tourists. Such companies always print colorful brochures to drum up business. You can make some money by offering your copy services to write such brochures and "marketing collaterals", as they're known in the business. The copy you write, with a few appropriate touches and edits, can double up as the company's web copy as well.

Here are some of the questions you need to ask before you sit down and write such copy. The answers would help you build your content in a hurry.

What is the NAME of the cruise, or boat tour?

What is the itinerary of the tour? What are the main/famous sights to see along the tour?

How much does the tour cost? Any group or special group discounts?

Are there any special days (holidays, certain days of the week, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.) on which the cruise is not available?

Where does the cruise depart from and at what time? When and where does it return?

Is there any food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), snacks, refreshment, or alcoholic drinks served on the cruise?

Does the tour offer any special events on water like weddings, wedding anniversaries, graduation parties, birthdays, bar- and bat-mitzvahs, etc.?

Are there any tour guides on the boat for narration? Is it a "Narrated Tour (or Cruise)"?

Any pre-recorded tapes or earphones available (for free or for a fee) narrating the main landmarks along the way?

Is the boat tour packaged together with a land tour or field trip?

Are reservations recommended?

What is the web site where customers can reserve their seats and buy their tickets in advance?

Under what conditions can the cruise/tour be cancelled?

Should the guests bring any special or protective clothing with them?

Are kids and babies allowed on the tour?

Any special provisions for the handicapped and senior citizens?
