Ancient Kiev

by Artur
(Kyiv)

KYIV (KIEV) - is the capital and the largest city of Ukraine, located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. As of April 2007, official municipal estimates placed the population of Kiev at about 2.7 million inhabitants, although some much higher unofficial estimates are often published (approximately 5 million inhabitants). Kiev is an important industrial, scientific, educational and cultural centre of Eastern Europe.
Kyiv, the ancient capital of Kievan Rus’, has more than 1500 year old history being one of the oldest cities of Eastern Europe. Nowadays Kyiv (Kiev) tours are quite popular among foreigners due to the rich Kyiv’s (Kiev) collection of ancient sightseeings such as Golden Gate, St. Sophia Cathedral, Kyiv (Kiev) Pechersk Lavra, etc. You may get acquainted with Kyiv’s landmarks individually or with some professional Kyiv (Kiev) guide.
As to the most remarkable Kyiv (Kiev) sightseeings you’re strongly recommended to see St. Sophia Cathedral and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra listed as sites of UNESCO World Heritage. St. Sophia Cathedral used to be a spiritual and cultural center of ancient Kyiv while Kyiv Pechersk Lavra plays a crucial role in orthodoxy having a great history of more than 900 years.
