Here are some pointers about writing the kind of college fundraiser letters that are sent to the alumni. MAIN POINTS to always keep in mind are: 1) The XYZ College’s educational mission is a vital; it’s almost a “holly” mission. However, refrain from the “crusade” language since in the 21st century the word has increasingly assumed or perceived to assume a sectarian and combative overtone. 2) The mission is of course not to feed the tenured faculty and administrative personnel but to keep the flame of hope high for a better future for us all. To create better tomorrows for the next generations we need a better educated generation now. Here are some phrases you’re welcomed to use as is or in a modified form: … excellence… mission… dreams… hopes… … Excellence is our mission … Our noble mission is now more important than ever. … These very same classrooms where you once received the light that led your path to success in life… … Today is right day to renew your commitment to XYZ College…… Our leaders of the future are eagerly awaiting your generous contribution… … Make a gift today, a gift of support for the leaders of tomorrow… … “A mind is like a parachute,” someone said, “it works only if it’s open…” … XYZ College has emerged at the forefront of ABC studies in the nation thanks to its library, EDF labs and distinguished faculty, all made possible thanks to donations like yours. … Last year, our students and faculty have won 12 distinguished awards in Biology, Mathematics, English, (list), all supported by your precious funds… … Our challenges are the challenges our nation and the future. We are determined to meet them head on by delivering the best education possible to a generation that will tackle and master such challenges and pass the test in flying colors… … We do not have a rich endowment like some of our competitors.
